Former insurance lobbyist and Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating was named the American Bankers Association president/CEO today.

Keating, who was president/CEO of the American Council of Life Insurers from 2003-2008, will join the ABA on Dec. 1 and begin his new job on Jan. 1, upon the retirement of ABA President/CEO Ed Yingling.

"Frank was the unanimous choice of the search committee," ABA Chairman Stephen P. Wilson said in a statement. "He brings to this position tremendous energy, a strong history of involvement in financial issues, the respect of policymakers on both sides of the aisle and extensive management experience, including eight years as CEO of the American Council of Life Insurers."
