The economic challenges facing the industry may be daunting but the Texas Credit Union League said its political action committee fundraising for 2009 hit record levels.

The deduct-a-buck campaigns have been around for some time among state leagues and CUNA, but the Texas league put the concept into high gear among staffers and it has paid off big time, league officials said this week.

During the year, the league said its PAC brought in $313,494.48, 125% of its goal. One small chapter, Big Spring, raised $6,000, or 476% of its goal.
