SHREWSBURY, N.J. – Whether to describe credit unions as part of a movement is clearly an emotional topic for some within the industry.

Credit Union Times' recently expired online voting poll on the issue produced one of the highest voter turnouts ever, and considerable reader feedback. Those on the side of calling it a movement believe the word is key to differentiating credit unions from other financial providers. Those not in favor of movement, believe the word can be intimidating and confusing to consumers who just want a place to conduct their financial business.

There was no clear consensus on the topic as votes were split down the middle. The voting poll question and results are as follows:
