ST. LOUIS – Hurricane Katrina survivors who relocated here won't have to worry about furniture thanks to St. Louis Community Credit Union. St. Louis Community CU purchased the new furniture from Weekends Only, a local chain that agreed to sell the furniture at a reduced cost. Items include kitchen sets, sofas, lamps and bedroom furniture. The new furniture will be distributed to needy evacuee families by the local St. Patrick Center. Some $5,000 was raised for the cause, which included donations from staffers, members and the credit union alike. "Everywhere you turn, people have been extremely generous in their response to this terrible tragedy," said St. Louis Community CU Director of Community Relations Francine Williams. "We wanted to make sure that our fundraising efforts truly made a difference in people's lives. So when we heard that the people moving here needed furniture to help make a fresh start, we felt it was the perfect use of the money we raised."
