TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Southeast Corporate is doing all it can to get cash into the hands of credit unions affected by Katrina. "When a disaster strikes, cash is king," said Southeast Corporate CEO Bill Birdwell. Southeast has been able to deliver cash to some credit unions in Mississippi. The corporate is coordinating single point drops to larger credit unions that are vaulting the cash and then distributing it to other credit unions in their vicinity the best they can. Southeast Corporate also resumed regular deliveries of cash in areas of Mississippi that were less impacted by Hurricane Katrina. On a supply level, Birdwell and a few other corporate employees packed a moving truck full of supplies and personally drove the supplies to affected CUs in Mississippi. The Southeast contingent was accompanied by Ed Young EVP/CIO of Credit Union 24 and Sean Dempsey, Communications Director of Credit Union 24. Young is a Captain in the Georgia National Guard. Charles Elliott, President of the Mississippi Credit Union Association in Jackson helped coordinate the delivery route for the team. "This is just the first part of our effort to get help to our members," said Birdwell. "We have teams of employees working on an additional truck of operational support as well as care and comfort supplies for credit union families."
