Considering what is being said and written about the appropriate role of the Texas Credit Union League and its President Dick Ensweiler in making the determination of the charter that is right for a specific institution, one can only wonder what world those leveling the criticisms live. I suggest his critics on either side of the issue wake up; not everyone agrees with your perception of the credit union world. The membership of the Texas Credit Union League is split regarding how this challenge to the credit union movement should be addressed. Those leveling harsh and unfair criticisms are further dividing us and offering nothing constructive as a remedy. Dick makes a great target. Over the years, I have taken my share of shots at the bulls-eye. Hopefully, I have been fair and reasonable. Those seeking to remain in the spotlight or seize it anew should go to work seeking solutions and stop distracting others from dealing with the serious challenges facing credit unions and our movement. Let me make it clear, I oppose all conversions of credit unions to any form of banking institution. This is a philosophical position stemming from a belief that the credit union movement is the best system for providing middle class Americans influence/control upon the financial institutions that serve them. This position is reasonable in this context, but others will disagree. If any regulator, former regulator or outspoken CEO really has answers to Dick's dilemma, please call me.
