NEW YORK-The New York State Credit Union League, in conjunction with CUNA, hosted a major event at Tavern on the Green in New York City for the state's representative in Congress and in the N.Y. legislature, as well as the convention delegates. Several members of Congress attended the event, including Congressman Tom Reynolds (R-N.Y.), Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.V.), N.Y. Governor George Pataki (R), and former Senator Tom D'Amato, as well as numerous representatives from the state legislature. New York League Senior Vice President and General Counsel Mike Lanotte commented, "Most notably, we spoke about the fact that the credit unions in New York State, along with CUNA and around the nation, are involved in the Child ID Program. It's something of great importance to our state legislature and we wanted to be sure they're aware that New York credit unions were involved." Reynolds handed out kits with the league the previous week and expressed his excitement in being involved in the Child ID Program. "That's really going to serve us well as we promote and work towards making the state environment better for credit unions here as well," Lanotte said. "It served us well at the federal and the state level." CUNA Vice President for Political Affairs Richard Gose characterized it as the "marquis" event for the N.Y. delegation. CUNA Senior Vice President of Governmental Affairs John McKechnie pointed out that CUNA President and CEO Dan Mica was interviewed by WNYC, a local public radio station during the event, which was a "pretty high visibility event for credit unions."
