I've wondered for years why credit unions have simply sat quietly and allowed the bankers to repeatedly use the `looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, must be a duck' argument (CU Times, March 17) without responding with the story of the ugly duckling from our childhood which was in reality a beautiful swan. At either the state or national level, someone in credit union leadership should be able to take this ball and run with it. We could have special paperback copies of the illustrated story printed, add our own `interpretation' and have them delivered to our state and national senators and representatives to coincide with bankers' attacks which use the analogy. Credit unions could also use the books in a dozen other ways like educating our members! Just my thought, but I think it's an idea that could be effective.
