WASHINGTON – President Bush nominated HUD Deputy SecretaryAlphonso Jackson as Secretary of the agency to succeed Mel Martinezwho resigned in December. Jackson has been Deputy Secretary for thepast three years. The president described him as “an experiencedexecutive in the public and private sectors, a man who knows theissues facing HUD and knows how to get things done.He is one of themost experienced and respected authorities on housing policy inAmerica who will be a superb Secretary of Housing and UrbanDevelopment.”
