PHOENIX – In an advertising blitz coinciding with International Credit Union Day and month, the Arizona Credit Union League Sept. 15 said it will be airing 340 radio ads on top stations from Flagstaff to Sierra Vista reaching 4.25 million Arizonans during October. In a new twist which the League hopes will give local CUs a higher profile, the spots feature 10 CEOs giving financial tips. The spots will run during morning and evening drive times for four weeks every Monday. The cooperative campaign, put together by a Scottsdale agency, Top Of Mind Awareness Advertising, is called "Money Minute" and ends with a tag line, "Join us in celebrating Credit Union Day by joining a Credit Union." "We expect our campaign to convey a message about the financial role credit unions play in the community and at the same time promote local credit unions," said Pat Bodnar, vice president-public affairs of the League. Beside Flagstaff and Sierra Vista, radio stations running the ads are also in Phoenix and Tucson, said Bodnar. A typical radio spot covers advice on car purchases with Linda Dhaemers, president of Desert Energy Credit Union, Tucson, cautioning consumers to avoid making "an impulse decision that can be very costly" as well as obtaining "a pre-approved car loan" before going into the dealership. The spot ends with the message, "I'm Linda Dhaemers and this has been your Credit Union Money Minute." Other Arizona CEOs participating in the ad series include: Fred Kent, of First CU; Miguel Avila, Chicanos Por La Causa FCU; Garth Griese, Arizona State Savings and CU; Ron Westad, Arizona Federal CU; Susan Frank, Desert Schools FCU; James Knoff, Pima FCU; Robert Ramirez, DM FCU, Randy Baldwin, Tucson Old Pueblo CU, and Brian Barkdull, Huachuca FCU.
