WASHINGTON – Which are the most popular states for consumers to relocate to? According to two 2000 Census reports recently released by the U.S. Census Bureau, Nevada and Arizona top the list. The two states had the highest rate of net in-migration from other states from 1995 to 2000. Many of the new residents came from California, said the Census Bureau. In 1995, Nevada had the highest rate of net in-migration, gaining 151.5 people for every 1,000 residents. Arizona gained 74.3 people per 1,000. Other states with high levels of net in-migration were Georgia (48.6), North Carolina (48.4); Florida (44); and Colorado (43.8). California had a net out-migration of 755,000 people to other states between 1995 and 2000, ranking it second behind New York which had a net out-migration of 874,000. The migration of 300,000 people from New York to Florida was the single largest state-to-state flow, and was more than the 70,000 reverse flow from Florida to New York.
