DURHAM, N.C. – January marks the official kick off of the Latino Community Development Center. Designed to help organize nonprofit groups statewide to serve the growing Hispanic population here, the center will teach how to do grass-roots organizing, develop good bylaws, appoint directors, create programs, raise money and do strategic planning. In addition, the center will try to create a better network of organizations statewide and improve the flow of information about hot issues to local nonprofits serving Hispanics. Standing by ready to help are El Centro Hispano, Latino Community Credit Union, North Carolina Center for Nonprofits, North Carolina Justice/Community Development Center, and other community groups. Ivan Parra, will leave his job as director of El Centro Hispano to become the center's first executive director in January.
