Sydney-based Gadens has been ordered to pay $4.7 millon to a former client.

Supreme Court of New South Wales Justice Robert Beech-Jones ruled in July that the law firm had provided negligent tax advice to John Symond, the founder of Australian mortgage lender Aussie Home Loans. In 2003, Symonds had sought advice from Gadens on a restructuring that would allow him to personally borrow money from his company while paying as little tax as possible on his loans.
