To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the federal Civil Rights Act, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law is hosting a panel discussion Wednesday and black-tie gala Thursday in New York.

The events will explore how far the U.S. has come since enacting the landmark legislation in July 2, 1964. Panelists will explore the “continuing need for lawyers to be engaged in taking on these cases and proposing legislation and engaging in public education,” said Barbara Arnwine, the Lawyers’ Committee’s president and executive director.
