Services will be held Saturday for Richard Braman, founder and executive director emeritus of The Sedona Conference, who passed away from complications related to cancer on June 9, the institute announced yesterday. He was 60.
Braman founded The Sedona Conference, a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) research and educational institute, in 1997; the next year became its executive director. Sedona studies “law and policy in the areas of antitrust law, complex litigation, and intellectual property rights,” explains its website. The organization promulgates “stimulating ongoing dialogue among leaders of the bench and bar, to achieve consensus on tipping point issues,” via “working groups” and events. It generates numerous publications and position statements, such as the “Cooperation Proclamation” designed to promote dialogue and information sharing during discussions. The “working groups” are on antitrust, e-discovery, complex litigation, intellectual property rights and international issues.
