A group of Washington lawyers, including partners at some of the city’s biggest firms, are supporting the District of Columbia Council in its court fight against the mayor over management of the budget.

The council sued the mayor’s office last month, seeking a court order requiring the mayor to enforce a law that would allow the city to spend locally raised funds without explicit approval from Congress. On April 2, the group of lawyers—calling themselves Concerned D.C. Legal Professionals— filed a brief in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia siding with the council.
